« on: November 26, 2013, 01:39:25 AM »
With many cisco switch user have this problem for a long time. This article is in order to help them solve this problem with an easy method.

Easy way to reset Cisco 2960 switch password:
First, power off your Cisco 2960 switch by unplugging its cord. As you reconnect the switch to the power source, press and hold the "Mode" button. On Cisco 2960 switches, this button is located on the front of the switch, on the left hand side.

After three seconds, the LED above the button should change from amber to green and start blinking. You are supposed to hold down the button until the light stops flashing. Release the button.

After you had done those steps, you can reset your password.

For the sake of completion, the method above only gets you into the rommon. You still need to modify the config-register by entering 'confreg' and follow wizard to ignore the startup config.

MC,

From experience you do not need to modify config-reg for switches. Once you rename config.text that is all.

Beside you still need to modify the following:

flash_init

wait for the output then;

load_helper

after you can check for the switch directory to be sure of the file you are modifying.

dir flash:

What you are looking for inside the flash is:

4    -rwx  1131      <date>               config.text

After this you rename config.text to something else for example:

rename flash:config.text flash:config.old

Then enter this command to boot the switch;

boot

Once done you are good to go as you will be take to initial setup mode.

Hope this helps and round up the topic well.
