Dual internet question
« on: September 03, 2013, 08:28:50 AM »
Hi there.

first time posting. :)

We have project of having dual internet connection. One through MPLS and other through Fios.  Both connection will be terminating on Cisco 881 router. This is the set up on the remote site. It will be used to connect to HQ. Fios will have DMVPN spoke connection to HQ.

There will be EIGRP running.

MPLS is going to be the main connection for users and Fios is going to be used as backup.
Also there will be certain sites that needs to be using Fios as primary and MPLS as backup.

Any idea as how to accomplish this?

I was thinking floating static for the MPLS to Fios failover.
maybe route-map with ACL to match the interesting traffic and forward it to Fios.

Am I heading to right direction?

Thank you in advance

This MPLS failover to DMVPN setup is common, although the design depends on many factors
1. If you run eBGP on MPLS and EIGRP on DMVPN, eBGP by default has AD of 20 so it will be preferred over EIGRP.
2. If you run EIGRP on both MPLS and DMVPN, you can create two separate EIGRP AS and configure AD on one to be less than the other to mimic the previous option. This way, you don't have to worry about readvertising routes between MPLS and DMVPN neither.
3. If your IP scheme permits, you can summarize out the less preferred path and let the traffic primarily follow the more specific routes.

Hope this helps.
