ISE LAB on ESXI
« on: March 26, 2015, 08:52:49 AM »
Hello,

In the video I saw you have Windows7 installed on ESXI for testing 802.1x. I used to have the same setting but it doesn't work very well.

What I did was assign a dedicated NIC to virtual machine and have a dedicated vswitch for that Win7. But it seems the vswitch couldn't pass 802.1x authentication request to the client machine. When it comes with MAB, it seems the cisco switch just use the MAC address of the physical NIC, not the virtual MAC for virtual machine.

Can you let me know how did you config your esxi to make 802.1x works for virtual machine?

Thank you!!

What you described sounds about right. Dedicated NIC, dedicated vSwitch, no VLAN tagging. Make sure you use E1000 on the VM NIC. Keep in mind the VM does not aware of the physical NIC status so every time you bounce the switchport to clear the session, you need to disable/re-enable the VM NIC as well.
